Preparation Steps

  • Hull and quarter fresh strawberries, sprinkle with 1 ¼ cups sugar, and let sit for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, combine 2 ¼ cups flour, 1 tablespoon baking powder, ¼ cup sugar, and ½ teaspoon salt. Cut in 3 tablespoons cold butter.
  • Whisk together 1 cup milk and 1 beaten egg, then mix into dry ingredients until just combined.
  • Drop spoonfuls of dough onto baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes until golden.
  • Whip together 1 ½ cups cream, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla until soft peaks form.
  • Slice cooled shortcakes, drizzle with strawberry syrup, add whipped cream, top with strawberries, and cap with the biscuit.
