  • 1 cup water Just a splash to create a simple syrup for coating the berries.

For the Coating

  • optional flavoring Consider a splash of vanilla extract or orange zest for a unique twist.

Instructions

Step-by-Step Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar with 1 cup of water. Heat over medium heat, stirring gently until the sugar completely dissolves. This should take about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Pour the simple syrup into a large mixing bowl. Add 2 cups of fresh cranberries, ensuring they’re fully submerged. Let them soak for about 10 minutes.
  • Remove the cranberries with a slotted spoon, letting excess syrup drip off. Place them in a shallow bowl with granulated sugar, rolling gently to coat.
  • Spread the coated cranberries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and allow to dry for at least 30 minutes.
  • Optional: Toss the dried cranberries in powdered sugar for extra flavor and to prevent clumping.
  • Serve the sugared cranberries as a snack, garnish for cocktails, or sprinkle over desserts.
