Instructions

Step-by-Step Instructions for Omurice

  • Prepare the rice by cooking the short-grain Japanese rice or jasmine rice according to package instructions and allow it to cool.
  • In a pan, heat vegetable oil and sauté chopped onions for 3-4 minutes until translucent, then add mixed vegetables for an additional 3-5 minutes.
  • Incorporate cooled rice into the pan with demi-glace, adding optional chicken or shrimp, and season with salt and pepper. Mix for 5 minutes.
  • Beat the eggs in a bowl, season with salt. Use a fork to combine until slightly frothy.
  • Cook the omelet in a pan with oil, swirling to create an even layer, for 3-4 minutes until edges set but center is runny.
  • Place a portion of the rice mixture in the center of the partially set omelet, fold the sides over the rice.
  • Gently slide the Omurice onto a plate, folding the omelet as desired. Drizzle with extra ketchup if you like and serve.
