Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Score the fat side of the pork belly in a crosshatch pattern. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet. Add pork belly fat side down and sear for about 5 minutes until golden brown.
  • Whisk together soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame oil to create the glaze.
  • Transfer the seared pork belly to a roasting pan and brush half of the glaze over the meat.
  • Roast the pork belly in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) for the remaining cooking time.
  • Continue roasting for an additional 40 minutes, brushing with the remaining glaze every 15 minutes.
  • Allow the pork belly to rest for about 10 minutes after removing it from the oven.
  • Slice the pork belly into thick pieces and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

Score the fat side deeply but not through the meat. Ensure your skillet is hot before searing. Don’t skip the resting time after roasting.
