Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add 1 cup of chopped onions and 2 minced garlic cloves, sautéing for about 5 minutes until the onions turn translucent.
  • Add 2 cups of ground beef and cook for about 7-10 minutes until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in 2 tablespoons of chili powder, 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper, 1 teaspoon of ground cumin, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, and ½ teaspoon of salt. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring continuously.
  • Add 1 can of diced tomatoes and 1 can of drained kidney beans to the pot. Pour in 1 cup of beef broth and stir well.
  • Bring to a simmer; reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  • Adjust seasoning as needed and serve hot, perhaps with rice or tortilla chips.
