Ingredients
  

For the Beef

  • 1 pound Beef sirloin or flank steak Use thin slices against the grain for maximum tenderness.
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch Helps create a light coating on the beef.

For the Stir Fry

  • 1 large Onion Sliced.
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce Foundation for salty, umami flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons Oyster sauce Enhances the depth of flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil Ideal for high-heat cooking.

For Flavor Boost

  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil Finishing touch for a nutty aroma.
  • 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine or dry sherry For added complexity.
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar Balances flavors.
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 1 inch Fresh ginger Grated or minced.
  • ½ teaspoon Black pepper Freshly ground.
  • 2 stalks Green onions Sliced.

For Serving

  • 4 cups Cooked rice or noodles Base for serving.

Preparation Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef sirloin or flank steak with soy sauce, cornstarch, Shaoxing wine, and sesame oil. Mix well and marinate for 15-20 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and freshly ground black pepper. Set it aside.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a wok or skillet over high heat. Add marinated beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove from the wok.
  • In the same wok, add remaining vegetable oil, then add garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add sliced onions and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until softened and translucent.
  • Return the beef to the wok along with any accumulated juices. Pour in the prepared sauce, stirring to coat evenly. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the beef is cooked through.
  • Add sliced green onions and toss to incorporate. Serve hot over cooked rice or noodles.

Notes

Marinate the beef for enhanced flavor. Keep the heat high during cooking for a good sear.
