Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 10-inch cast iron skillet or an 8x8 baking pan with butter.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 1 cup of dark brown sugar, a pinch of sea salt, 1 cup of light corn syrup, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 3 eggs until smooth.
  • Fold in ½ cup of coarsely chopped pecans into the filling mixture, then pour this mixture into the prepared pan.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the yellow cake mix and optional 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, then sprinkle it evenly over the pecan filling layer.
  • Drizzle ¼ cup of melted unsalted butter over the cake mix layer and top with remaining pecans.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
  • Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving warm slices.
