  • 1 cup bourbon substitute with apple cider for a non-alcoholic option
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar light brown sugar works but dark will add more richness
  • ¼ cup Dijon mustard balances sweetness with its sharp, tangy flavor
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon adds warmth and is essential to the glaze's depth
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves substitute with allspice if preferred
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper fresh-ground delivers the best flavor
  • 1 teaspoon salt kosher salt is great for cooking

Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Position a roasting rack inside a roasting pan.
  • Score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern. Place the ham, cut side down, on the rack and cover with foil.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine all the glaze ingredients and heat over medium, whisking until the sugar has dissolved and the glaze thickens slightly.
  • Bake the ham for 1.5 hours. Brush the glaze over the ham generously after 1.5 hours.
  • Roast for an additional 30 minutes, basting every 10 minutes with the remaining glaze.
  • Stud the ham with whole cloves for decoration during the last 15 minutes of cooking.
  • Let the ham rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing to allow juices to redistribute.
  • Slice the ham into hearty portions and serve warm, drizzling remaining glaze over the slices.
