For the Filling

  • 1 cup Mushrooms chopped
  • 1 cup Gruyère Cheese grated
  • 2 tablespoons Butter for sautéing

For the Pastry

  • 1 sheet Puff Pastry
  • 1 each Egg beaten for egg wash

Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a medium-sized skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the chopped mushrooms and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until tender.
  • Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to a rectangle about 12x10 inches. Cut slits about 1 inch apart on both long sides.
  • Spoon the sautéed mushroom mixture along the center of the puff pastry, then top with grated Gruyère cheese.
  • Fold the slits of pastry over the filling in a crisscross pattern to create the braid effect.
  • Brush the top of the braid with the beaten egg for a golden crust.
  • Bake on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for 20-25 minutes until puffed and golden brown. Let cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

Serve with a light salad or a cup of soup. Store leftovers tightly wrapped in the fridge for up to 3 days.
