Step-by-Step Instructions

  • In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add rigatoni pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 10-12 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add Italian sausage, breaking it apart as it browns for about 5-7 minutes until thoroughly cooked.
  • Add diced onion to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  • Pour in crushed tomatoes, heavy cream, and chicken broth. Stir to combine, add Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and pepper, then let simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Add cooked rigatoni to the sauce in the skillet, stirring to coat the pasta thoroughly. Heat through for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  • Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the pasta, stirring until melted and the sauce becomes smooth and creamy.
  • Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves.

Notes

Use high-quality Italian sausage for better flavor. Cook rigatoni until al dente. Freshly grated Parmesan cheese provides the best melting results.
