Step‑by‑Step Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with butter or nonstick cooking spray and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low to medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let it cool for 3-5 minutes.
  • Whisk in the granulated sugar and light brown sugar until smooth. Add vanilla extract to combine the rich flavors.
  • Incorporate the eggs one at a time, whisking vigorously after each addition for 30-45 seconds.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, sea salt, and baking powder. Gradually fold into the wet ingredients.
  • Fold in the remaining dry mixture and then the chocolate chips, adding nuts if desired.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smooth the top, and bake for 22-28 minutes, checking for doneness around 22 minutes.
  • Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for 1-1.5 hours on a wire rack.
  • Lift the brownie slab out of the pan using the parchment overhang and cut into heart shapes with cookie cutters.
  • Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with melted chocolate and garnish with fresh berries before serving.
