Step‑by‑Step Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and molasses to the butter mixture and beat until smooth.
  • Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined. Do not over-mix.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and place on prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes until the edges are firm.
  • Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  • To make the frosting, beat together softened butter and powdered sugar, then add milk and vanilla until fluffy.
  • Once cookies are cool, frost them with the creamy frosting and add sprinkles if desired.

Notes

Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Refrigerate for up to 1 week.
