Ingredients

For the Bread

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour the base for a fluffy, tender bread.
  • 1 cup sugar adds the perfect sweetness to complement the festive flavors.
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder helps the bread rise beautifully for a light texture.
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda works with buttermilk to achieve that soft, tender crumb.
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt enhances flavors, making each bite irresistible.
  • 1 cup buttermilk keeps the bread moist and fluffy, essential for buttermilk bread!
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten adds richness and helps bind the ingredients together.
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled brings a delightful richness to the bread.
  • 0.5 teaspoon almond extract infuses a lovely nutty flavor that elevates this treat.
  • 0.5 cup sprinkles adds a pop of color and festive cheer to elevate the holiday spirit.

For the Glaze

  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted creates a sweet, smooth glaze that’s perfect for topping.
  • 3 tablespoons buttermilk, plus more as needed ensures the glaze reaches the desired consistency.
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup adds shine and helps the glaze to adhere nicely.
  • Nonpareils a fun finishing touch to make your bread look even more festive!

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Move the rack to the upper third of your oven and preheat it to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x5 inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well-blended.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, buttermilk, melted butter, and almond extract until smooth.
  • Gently pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture. Fold them together until just combined, then fold in the sprinkles.
  • Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let the bread cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then lift it out and place it on a wire rack to cool completely.
  • While the bread cools, prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, buttermilk, and corn syrup.
  • Once cooled, glaze the bread and top with nonpareils.

Notes

Use a gentle folding technique to ensure the bread stays light and fluffy. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
