Ingredients

  • 1 box white cake mix
  • 1 ¼ cups water
  • ½ cup oil
  • 4 egg whites
  • 3 oz box cherry Jell-O
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 8 oz whipped topping
  • 12 maraschino cherries

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, water, oil, and egg whites, mixing on medium speed for about 3 minutes.
  • Pour the batter into the greased dish and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Once cooled slightly, poke holes in the cake with a skewer or fork at ½-inch intervals.
  • For the Jell-O, dissolve the cherry Jell-O in 1 cup of boiling water, then add 1 cup of cold water.
  • Pour the Jell-O mixture over the cake, ensuring it fills the holes and let it seep for about 10 minutes.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
  • Spread whipped topping over the cake and garnish with maraschino cherries.
  • Cut into slices and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Let the cake cool completely before poking holes.
  • Poke holes at ½-inch intervals for optimal absorption.
  • Refrigerate for at least 4 hours to let flavors meld.
  • Use cold whipped topping for better stability.
  • Experiment with different cake mixes or Jell-O flavors.
