  • 1 teaspoon black pepper adds a subtle kick
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder provides savory depth
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder enhances overall flavor

  • 1 teaspoon dried basil complements marinara sauce
  • 1 large egg acts as a binder
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs adds texture and retains moisture

For the Assembly

  • 1 cup marinara sauce the perfect topping
  • 8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese melts beautifully
  • 1 sheet puff pastry provides a flaky, buttery crust
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil used for cooking

Instructions

Step‑by‑Step Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dried basil, egg, and breadcrumbs. Mix well until fully incorporated.
  • Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into 1-inch meatballs. Place onto a plate or baking sheet, and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add meatballs in batches, cooking for 5-7 minutes until golden brown. Transfer to a baking dish.
  • Pour marinara sauce over the meatballs in the baking dish. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously on top.
  • Roll out the thawed puff pastry to about ⅛ inch thick and cut a circle large enough to cover the meatballs.
  • Place the rolled pastry over the meatball mixture, tucking the edges down. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F for 25-30 minutes.
  • Remove from oven, let cool for a few minutes, then invert onto a serving platter and serve warm.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing. Don’t skimp on the herbs! Allow the dish to rest after baking for a crispy finish.
