For the Spaghetti

  • 12 oz spaghetti noodles choose your favorite pasta shape
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil adds richness

For the Bloody Sauce

  • 15 oz can crushed tomatoes gives the sauce its vibrant red color
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste thickens the sauce

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano for a fragrant herb kick
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil adds a lovely aroma
  • ½ teaspoon salt enhances all the flavors
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper adds a touch of heat
  • ½ teaspoon red chili flakes optional, for a spicy twist

For the Eyeballs

  • 12 small fresh mozzarella balls bocconcini or ciliegine
  • 6 black olives pitted and sliced in half for a fun eye effect

Cooking Steps

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add spaghetti noodles, and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat, add minced garlic and chopped onion, and sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and red chili flakes to the saucepan. Stir well, bring to a simmer, and cook uncovered for 10-15 minutes.
  • Press half-slices of black olives into each mozzarella ball to create eyeballs. Optionally, add a small dot of balsamic glaze for decoration.
  • Toss the drained spaghetti into the sauce, ensuring every strand is well-coated, and warm through for another minute.
  • Plate the saucy spaghetti, arranging mozzarella eyeballs on top. Serve warm for a delightful presentation.
